JAMES
C. VER HAGUE
Professor, Computer Graphics Design
Director, Electronic Visual Design Center
Rochester Institute of Technology
I have
known Ray professionally for over six years through Dynamic
Graphics for whom I conducted multimedia workshops and where
Ray was employed. Ray's work came to my attention as the
co-author of Idea Source, monthly episodes on CD ROM that
demonstrated, in Ray's words, "the power of interactive
training." I was immediately impressed. Every so often one
meets a designer whose work is so strong, so exceptional,
that you know you are seeing something very special. His
award-winning work with Idea Source provides some insight
into his multiple creative talents. Ray is an excellent
illustrator, graphic designer, interface designer, 2D and
3D animator, digital videographer, writer, and sound effects
man. Over the years, he has produced some remarkable examples
of multimedia design-imaginative, entertaining, educational-particularly
considering the time constraints of the production cycle.
If I had to choose someone who I feel was born to design
interactive multimedia, Ray Lonsdale would be that person.
He understands it, has a natural affinity for it, and is
passionate about it.
Ray's
work has had a significant impact on my MFA program in computer
graphics design. For years I have been demonstrating to
my students the tips and techniques that he developed in
Idea Source. In addition, Idea Source itself has provided
many inspiring examples of the principles of good multimedia
design. These have been major contributions to their education.
But even more importantly, Ray has served as the model for
the type of multimedia designer that I encourage my students
to become. Why? Because he keeps challenging himself to
raise the bar of his own creativity. Ray has full command
of the ever expanding tools of his trade and uses them to
communicate most effectively. In raising the bar for himself,
unbeknownst to him, he kept raising the bar of what I expected
of my students. Neither has failed to deliver.

MONROY
Graphic
Artist/Illustrator/Teacher
I wish
to draw attention to the extraordinary capabilities of Ray
Lonsdale. I have been in the graphic arts industry for over
thirty years. Half of those years have been spent primarily
in the field of computer graphics. I have worked in the
film industry for Industrial Light & Magic, R/Greenberg
Associates and a vast number of smaller studios. I have
also been a teacher for over fifteen years at such institutions
as The School of Visual Arts in New York and currently at
San Francisco State University.
Through
all those years of involvement in the arts, I have met many
individuals aspiring to become professional artists, but
few have made the impression that Ray has made on me.
Ray's
extensive experience and well rounded knowledge of the digital
realm makes him a tremendous asset to any organization lucky
enough to bring him on board. His talent allows him to take
a project from conceptualization to final product, be it
a still image for print or a fully interactive 3-dimensional
environment for education or entertainment.

JOHN
L. RUSH
Chairman of the Board, Dynamic Graphics, Inc.
It has
been my good fortune in over 30 years at Dynamic Graphics
to know and work with many extraordinarily talented individuals
throughout the graphic arts industry. Among those I rank
high on this list is Ray Lonsdale. Ray is a unique person
and a remarkable combination of talent, creativity, knowledge
and commitment. While his list of accomplishments demonstrates
an impressive range and depth, it doesn't begin to show
the potential that I believe he truly has.
Ray
conceived, developed and produced an interactive electronic
magazine, which was published monthly on CD. His assigned
objective as Creative Director was to provide content that
offered training and education on a variety of graphic arts
subjects. He did an exceptional job of matching the objective,
while keeping the material fresh and meeting almost impossible
deadlines. Within this project he created illustrations
(many in 3D), animations and interface designs.
Ray
has a solid understanding and command of a variety of graphics
software. This is demonstrated not only by the quality of
his work, but his high level of productivity (I personally
observed him create a complex 3D illustration in a few hours
that I would have expected any other illustrator to take
a couple of days).
In an
organization that included 30 plus computer designers and
illustrators, Ray was often looked to as the guru would
could find the answer for tough problems. As a result, he
was often called upon to serve in a variety of management/leadership
positions. Initially, he served as the assistant manager
of the computer graphics division. He went on to serve as
the Manager and Creative Director of the Dynamic Graphics'
New Media Studio.
By now
it should be apparent that I have a high personal regard
for Ray. But it's not only as an associate in business,
but as a person. His values and sincerity, his commitment
and loyalty, all combine to make him a very special person.
He is truly a consummate creative who cannot stop creating,
whether at work or home. If not creating a new graphic,
then writing a screenplay. Like most creatives, Ray is a
dreamer; unlike many creatives, Ray puts his dreams to work.

DON
JOHNSON
Executive Director, Hult Health Education Center
The
Hult Health Education Center, located in Peoria, Illinois,
has worked with Mr. Ray Lonsdale for the past five years.
Mr. Lonsdale is an extremely talented individual who listened
to and developed exactly what we wanted. We developed, from
inception, two education CD-ROMs and our website.
The
"Body Connections" series focused on Body Systems and HIV/AIDS.
The quality and interaction developed by Mr. Lonsdale is
second to none. Five foundations in Illinois like these
CD-ROMs so much they financially support them free for the
schools in Illinois. The Kemper Foundation, Hemophilia Foundation,
National Ronald McDonald House Charities, Ronald McDonald
House Charities of Central Illinois, and the Peoria Area
Community Foundation.
We have
never met anyone like Mr. Ray Lonsdale with his caring and
understanding qualities, definitely an "A+" in multimedia
development.

CRAIG
SCHWARZ
Webmaster, orlandoartists.com/Walt Disney World
When I came up with the idea to create www.orlandoartists.com
I wanted the site to become a place for the best artists
in the Orlando to post their artwork for everyone to see
worldwide. When I first created the site it was very basic
and I didn't get too many hits. I needed a new look. This
is when I received an email from Ray Lonsdale in Illinois.
Ray was working for Dynamic Graphics at the time and was
very interested in moving down to Florida to follow his
dream of working for the aerospace industry. I was completely
amazed by the beautiful graphics that Ray created with Bryce
5 software. This is when I asked Ray if he could help me
create a new look for the Orlando artist site. Over the
next year Ray put together the most incredible site I could
only dream of.
I
would highly recommend to anyone looking for a graphic artist
that can create the whole picture to give Ray a call. His
attention to detail is just amazing. I'm surprised that
no large company has not snagged him up by know. Ray is
so dedicated to his work. When you hire Ray he will create
a product for you with theme that will be consistant from
the opening page to the last page.
Thanks
Ray for coming to Central Florida and for helping me put
together www.orlandoartists.com. I could never have done
it with out you.

I have the very extreme pleasure of working beside one of the most talented artists I have ever met. Ray is a master at Illustrator, Photoshop and Concept Visualization. His work involves fantastic use of light and color. He was also one of the top talents at EA Tiburon, working on the games such as Superman and completely re-branding EA Tiburon’s branch. Ray was also one of Create Magazine’s featured artists. I don’t just work with Ray, but I get to collaborate with him on projects, which has only further increased my skill set and knowledge of design. |
